Austin with Friends

A weekend to remember.  This weekend Collin and I decided to meet up with some friends in Austin.  We made it to Austin around lunch time and were starving!  We had planned to eat at the trailer eateries that are becoming famous in Austin.  SoCo (South Congress) is home to great shopping, people watching, and food.  Much to our surprise the trailer eateries were GONE!  And in its place they were starting construction on condos.  Womp, womp, womp.  Welp, we got over that surprise quickly and decided to eat at Z Tejas on 6th Street.  Always a hit!  We were seated outside on the patio away from everyone (which we love) and enjoyed homemade cornbread and mimosas.  Lunch consisted of a juicy burger for Collin and spicy chicken enchiladas for me.  Yum!

After lunch we walked down the street to Whole Foods.  If you aren't from Texas and have never been to a Whole Foods it's basically like a food museum - food that looks too expensive to touch.  They make great gealto and with the 90 degree weather outside it hit the spot.  I decided on lime gelato and Collin went for mint chocolate chip.  We both decided I made the best choice with the lovely citrus flavor.

Barton Springs was calling our name after our treat.  We headed to Zilker Park, changed into our suits, and headed in.  It's only about $4 a person to get in.  What a deal!  The water is freezing but with the heat it actually felt good - I usually have quite an aversion to cold water.  They are working on updating and renovating the grassy lounge area so we had to lounge on the sides of the pool but it was still a perfect day!

We swam, lounged, and of course Collin took a few turns on the diving board, then got ready to head to dinner.  On San Jacinto Street downtown is a corner bar called Max's Wine Dive.  We met up with a couple of friends to enjoy the evening.  They are, of course, known for their extensive wine list but I decided to go for a little bubbly.  The champagne went perfectly with the 'Nacho Mamas Oysters' which were crispy fried oysters with garlic aioli on crispy wonton chips topped with habanero salsa.  Yum!  Collin had a grilled cheese with tomato soup which is the quintessential comfort food.  I decided on the friend egg sandwich with bacon.  Everything was delicious and I laughed until my cheeks hurt!  We loved every minute!
