Tuscan Adventures
Tuscany had been on my go-to list for a long time. I dreamed of seeing it's beauty in person after every movie I saw showing rolling hills, romantic vineyards, and small stone buildings dotting the countryside. We arrived in Sienna and picked up our rental car for the week. Collin agreed to be our chauffeur!
We drove about an hour through the Tuscan countryside to our hotel. We booked our home away from home at Borgo di Pietrafitta Relais. As we drove up the dirt road towards the villa I knew we had picked a great spot. We stepped out of the car to stretch our legs and I was immediately blown away by the views.
We got the keys from reception and went to check out our apartment.
The next day we got up early, had a bit of breakfast, and drove to the medieval town of Volterra.
Volterra was wonderous. With every little turn we made while exploring the streets we found something wonderful - views of the hills below, beautiful plaza's, and churches straight out of Alice and Wonderland.
We stopped at various spots around the town to admire the sweeping views and take a few pictures.
We got some lunch and gelato, of course, and made our way back to the villa to relax. The villa had a ping pong table near the pool so we had a few friendly games before calling it a night.
The next day we decided to drive to Siena which was by far my favorite Tuscan town we visited. The Piazza del Campo was magical.
We walked around Siena and found one of the most beautiful churches - the Siena Cathedral. It is covered in colorful frescoes from top to bottom.
Collin was our tour guide and graciously directed us very hungry tourists, despite our complaints of how far it was, to a restaurant with the most stunning views.
This guy always manages to surprise me. This wasn't my first reaction when he swooped me up but it's definitely one of my favorite pictures of our entire trip.
Our final Tuscan adventure was to sample some local wine. We booked a tasting at a nearby vineyard and made our way up the very steep, very narrow road.
I had never seen grapes growing on the vine and it was incredible to see the depth of color and beauty of their surroundings.
We enjoyed some appetizers that our wonderful host provided while sampling her wines. They were all equally delicious.
We then took our time walking through the vines, enjoying the weather and feeling forever grateful for where we were.
We had an amazing time, as you can see from my face, and would definitely recommend visiting this small, family run vineyard - Montefioralle Vineyard.
