It's great to be 'like a girl'

Collin recently showed me a video that Always created to portray the way in which a phrase can affect a generation of girls.  The video entitled 'Like a Girl' has gone viral and rightfully so.

Wimberley Wedding - Day 3

Collin and I woke on our last day in Wimberley exhausted from the night's festivities.  Luckily we got to sleep in to try to regain some of our strength.  We were hungry and looking for some grub.  We got ready, packed up the car, and took one last look at the magnificent view from the back porch.

Wimberley Wedding - Day 2

The mister and I woke the next day surprisingly refreshed and ready for another day of celebration.  We awoke to a stunningly beautiful day.  We took our coffee out to the back porch and slowly soaked in the surrounding nature and nibbled on oatmeal.  After catching up with Collin's parents and deciding the plan for the day we headed inside to get ready.

Wimberley Wedding - Day 1

Tis the season for weddings and man oh man did we get invited to a great one.  This past weekend Collin and I went to a fabulous wedding in Wimberley, TX.  Now for those of you that don't know about the hill country you are sorely missing out.  It is the best part of Texas, hands down.

The Bones of Paris Book Review

I am halfway through my current read which is called 'The Bones of Paris.'  Now I'll be honest with you, I am kind of on an anything Parisian kick and when I was perusing my local library in search of a new book I saw the word 'Paris' sticking out of the bookshelf and knew this was the book for me.

Sautéed Tilapia with Capers

Tilapia is a staple fish in our household.  Not only is it relatively inexpensive it is quite delicious if you prepare it in the way I am about to share with you.  This dish is deliciously tangy with the hit of capers you get with each mouthful.  I often make this during the week for a healthy and flavorful end to the day.

Sunshine, Seafood, and Snow cones

Texas weather is upon us!  Skirts, shorts, and sunglasses are a must these days.  Luckily, and quite surprisingly, we have had a ridiculously mild start to summer - knock on wood.  Not that I want that to change or anything but we are getting into the time of summer where being outside, unless you are submerged in water, is just not an option.  But before that happens we decided to take advantage of the mild weekend and enjoy as much of the big blue Texas sky as possible.

Zesty Spaghetti Sauce

Holy cow!  This spaghetti sauce is without a doubt the best I have ever made.  Collin thinks so too - although he is probably a bit biased.  I have been searching for new ways to make spaghetti as it is my all time favorite comfort food.  And I think I've finally found it.

Anniversary Weekend at the Lake

Last weekend marked Collin and my four year anniversary.  As cliche as it sounds, the time has literally flown by.  My favorite parts have been the laughter, smiles, hugs, kisses, and fantastic memories that we have made.

Mini Stuffed Peppers

Nachos without tortilla chips??  Strange but surprisingly delicious concept.  This is a fun take on a classically tasty meal.  I have made Collin quite a few variations of stuffed peppers but this may be the tastiest.

Mickey's Sliders

We have found a kickin' new restaurant in College Station.  Mickey's Sliders.  It is without a doubt my new favorite place to go.  They greet you with a "Welcome to Mickey's!  Have you been here before?"  Now, we can officially say, yes!  We're in the club.

Roasted Red Pepper Pasta

You will find as you read many of my recipe posts that I LOVE pasta.  I think part of me deep down must be Italian.  At least, I like to think I am.  This recipe is a favorite in my house.  The roasted red pepper flavor, Italian sausage, and salty Parmesan makes this an ultimate pasta meal for any day of the week.

Memorial Day Weekend

Celebration time!  Collin and my parents decided to throw me a party to celebrate my graduation from graduate school.  The only requests I had were that it be held at the lake house and it be a laid back, fun affair.  They didn't disappoint!

Chicken Chow Mein

Noodles are my favorite.  Italian, Asian, any kind will do.  I simply love the darn things.  When I get in the mood for Asian food I always want to recreate a lo mein recipe.  I created this recipe and Collin calls it a "keeper."

A pup named Gwen.

Five years ago a gangling little puppy was born.  On a September evening in 2009 Collin and I drove to the Houston Airport to pick up some very important cargo.  Our puppy had flown all the way from Michigan to join our little family.  We drove around to the cargo area and saw a small dog carriage sitting, waiting for us.  The puppy was scared and curled up at the back of the cage.  She didn't understand and didn't know what to think about the journey that she had made.

Chocolate Chip Toffee Crunch Cookies

Cookies are one of my all time favorite desserts.  Soft, gooey, and sometimes crunchy, they are the ultimate treat.  My favorite type of cookie is chocolate chip, of course.  That sweet smell, sugary taste, and gooey texture make any day that much better.  I wanted to put a little twist on my old favorite by adding toffee to the mix.  Here is how it went...

Alfresco at Blue Baker

Mom came to visit this weekend and our days were spent mostly outside in the glorious weather we are having.  The weather is unusual for May in Texas and we are taking advantage of it as much as we can.

Cheeseburger Salad

Who doesn't love a good cheeseburger?  Exactly, we all do!  But sometimes I want a burger without feeling that - ugh - feeling.  I absolutely love looking up recipes and tweaking them to become my own creation.  I give you...the cheeseburger salad.

Austin with Friends

A weekend to remember.  This weekend Collin and I decided to meet up with some friends in Austin.  We made it to Austin around lunch time and were starving!  We had planned to eat at the trailer eateries that are becoming famous in Austin.  SoCo (South Congress) is home to great shopping, people watching, and food.
